Customs commissionerate Ludhiana on Tuesday, November 21st foiled a major gold smuggling attempt at Chandigarh International Airport. The teams of the department on the basis of special input arrested a passenger who alighted from flight from Chennai to Chandigarh and was trying to smuggle Rs. 98.61 lakh worth of gold which was concealed in his pocket.

This attempt seems to be part of a larger gold smuggling ring as the passenger had collected this gold from seat 10D of the international flight which landed at Chennai from Kuwait on November 21st. It was after this that the passenger took an onward flight to Chandigarh with this gold and was caught by the customs authorities.

According to a statement released by IRS Radhe Tallo, Joint Commissioner of Customs, further investigation in this case is underway.
