Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Jalandhar has carried out search operations on May 29th 2024 at 14 residential/ business premises in various districts across state of Punjab viz. Rupnagar (Ropar), Hoshiarpur, Mandi Gobindgarh (Fatehgarh Sahib) and Una (Himachal Pradesh) under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 in relation to an Illegal Mining case.
During the course of search operations, various incriminating evidences, documents, mobile phones, laptop and cash amounting to Rs. 4.06 Crore were recovered and seized. ED initiated investigation on the basis of FIR registered by Punjab Police under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 and various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
ED investigation revealed that Nasib Chand proprietor of Shri Ram Stone Crusher was carrying out illegal mining on the land attached by ED in the infamous Bhola Drugs case. During investigation, it was further revealed that Nasib Chand was also carrying out rampant illegal mining in other areas of Ropar district. Various transactions related to transfer of funds among other persons /entities involved in illegal mining were surfaced during the investigation. These entities were also covered under the search operations, further investigation is under progress.
