The Congress party has announced that 2025 will be fully dedicated to strengthening its grassroots structure through the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, a nationwide organisational drive initiated by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.

This was stated by All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and National Observer for Punjab, Manoj Yadav, who addressed the media in Mohali on Sunday and also stressed that the initiative is aimed at empowering district leadership and ensuring greater accountability. He was joined by state observers for Mohali, MP Amar Singh and Ravinderpal Singh Pali, former health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu and others.

Yadav underlined that the linchpin of the party’s structure is the District President, who maintains daily contact with the people. “Our effort is to make the District President more accountable, better trained, and equipped to directly communicate feedback to the high command,” he said.

The process of selecting new District Presidents in Punjab will conclude by September 14, with observers meeting leaders, grassroots workers, and community representatives over the next two weeks. Feedback will play the decisive role in appointments, rather than an electoral contest. Aspirants have been invited to submit their forms by Tuesday, with final reports expected by September 16.

Similar exercises have already begun in Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttarakhand, and Punjab, while states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Gujarat have completed the process. The next step will be to formalise District and Block Committees, further decentralising leadership.

“This is not an election but a feedback-driven selection,” Yadav said, highlighting the emphasis on participatory leadership. “Every aspirant will have the chance to meet us one-on-one.”

Yadav also linked the organisational campaign to Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which he said had revived the party’s energy nationwide. “Rahul Gandhi forced the Modi government to announce the caste census, and today he is receiving immense love in Bihar. Our mission is to carry this energy to every block and district of Punjab,” Yadav added.

Prominent Congress leaders present at the press conference included former minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, Derabassi incharge Deepinder Singh Dhillon, Kharar incharge Vijay Sharma Tinku, district president Ranjeet Singh Jeeti, women’s president Swaranjit Kaur, former chairman Harkesh Chand Sharma Machlikalan, Hans Raj Bhoothgarh of the SC cell, Gurinder Singh (block president Kharar), Rakesh Kalia, Iqbal Channi, block president Madan Singh, Shubh Sekhon (Youth Congress, Mohali), OBC president Harnek Singh, Sushant Kaushik (advocate and district president legal cell Mohali), Ranjit Singh Naglian, and All India Women Cell general secretary Parminder Kaur.

Concluding the interaction, Yadav reiterated that the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan is designed to strengthen Congress at the grassroots through accountability, decentralisation, and direct contact with the people.
